Citing the emerging challenges of internal and external aggression, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh underlined the need for unity to counter the forces trying to divide the nation on communal lines.
Only a united India could fight the enemy, he added. The great Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji had promoted the ideology of oneness of all humans, rising above petty caste and religious considerations, he pointed out, underscoring the relevance of this message in the current times.
The Chief Minister was visiting the two towns to mark the culmination of th birth anniversary celebrations and the st Prakash Gurpurb of the 1st Sikh Guru. Greeting the Sangat across the globe, the Chief Minister stressed that the centuries-old teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji were still relevant in contemporary times, and continue to inspire people with his philosophy of love, peace, compassionate and humanity.
Captain Amarinder said the pace of the ongoing development projects at Sultanpur Lodhi and Dera Baba Nanak would be accelerated, in addition to the launch of new projects to develop these places as planned townships. He also asked MLA Navtej Singh Cheema to submit a proposal regarding new development projects, if needed, in the region. The MLA urged Captain Amarinder Singh to grant funds for strengthening of basic amenities and infrastructure development in colonies located adjoining the Rail Coach factory, where more than 25, people were residing.
Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave primary importance to farming and himself took it up, so this sector has religious connection with the people of Punjab. Crediting the Chief Minister for the opening of Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, the Minister further pointed out that this Corridor would be a symbol of peace and oneness of mankind.

Corridor story. From Booklet. From Ripudaman Parkash. Kartarpur is situated in the Pakistan about 2Km. The shrine building stands out singly as there is no habitation around. Dera is duly connected by road and rail and is about 50 km from Amritsar, 39 Km from Gurdaspur and 35 Km from Batala.
Another historic town Kalanaur is at a distance of about 10 Km only. This land is on the right bank of river Ravi. Kartarpur thus became the first Sikh centre.
There is a reference in the historical books that Guru formally laid the foundation of Kartarpur on Magh 13, Bikrmi year [AD]. His family; father, mother, wife and sons also arrived at Kartarpur. Here the Guru lived the life of a householder for 18 years. Guru set up a Langer the common kitchen and a sarai the inn here.
It was for the first time in the history of Indian sub-continent that people dined together irrespective of their caste and creed. Since both Hindus and Muslims were his followers they started argument. Each claimed his body. Ultimately it was mutually decided that overnight, flowers be placed by both on his body and whose flowers found withered the next morning would loose claim. Next morning when the cloth sheet was removed body was missing and flowers of both communities were found as fresh as they were overnight.
Therefore both a grave and a smadh exist here. Many sources tell us that except the first journey Guru commenced it all from here.
Kartarpur had thus become the headquarter of the Sikhs and the Guru.The gurdwara is also notable for its location near the border between Pakistan and India. The shrine is visible from the Indian side of the border. This historic moment officially allowed Indian Sikh pilgrims rare visa-free access to the site in Pakistan. The shrine is located five kilometres from the Indo-Pakistani border. The gurdwara was built to commemorate the site where Guru Nanakthe founder of Sikhismsettled after his missionary work and did farming.

Muslims, who saw him as their pirwanted to bury him while Hindus, who claimed Nanak as their guruwanted to cremate his body. But the legend follows that Guru Nanak's body was turned into flowers, which were then divided between the two communities.
